A thermal breast scan also referred to as a breast thermogram, analyzes the breast "physiology", as where a mammogram and ultrasound analyzes the breast "anatomy". Mammography aka mammogram uses radiation to take x-ray images of the breast in order to reveal solid calcifications, masses, and tumors. Thermography reveals changes in physiology by measuring and monitoring temperature variations that take place over a period of time in a disease process. Breast thermography when used along with screening tests, may reveal early warning signs of physiological changes (especially with dense breast tissue) thereby allowing for early awareness of breast disease.
